Consisting of the main island of Pulau Payar, the smaller islands of Pulau Kaca, Pulau Lembu and Pulau Segantang, Payar Marine Park was gazetted a fisheries protected area in 1985 after many years of overfishing.

Studies by the 'World Wide Fund for Nature' (WWF) showed diverse marine life including 36 genera of hard corals, 92 other marine invertebrates and 45 genera of fish.

In ideal conditions, when the sea is calm and the visibility is good the 'Coral Garden' is a spectacular sight. This compact area, only 10m square is a riot of colour with dynamic shoals of fish, the undersea wonderland of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Payar Marine Park is the pride of Malaysia. A shining example of how proper conservation, good management and the promotion of eco-tourism can safeguard a healthy environment for future generations.
